Deep home cleaning is a complete and comprehensive cleaning of your home. It covers every inch of your home, and the objective of the cleaning is to completely get rid of dirt, making your home look spick and span. One of the key activities done during deep cleaning is disinfecting your home. Regular cleaning focused on getting rid of dust, but deep cleaning ensures that germs of all types are removed. This will ensure your home is not just clean but also safe from harmful germs that could cause infections.
In these pandemic times, it is very important to disinfect the home so that viruses and germs are killed. This is particularly important if you have sick people or small babies at home who would be susceptible to infections. There are different ways in which you can disinfect your home during deep home cleaning. The blog discusses some of the methods that you can use.
Cleaning Vs. Disinfecting
Before going ahead with the disinfecting work, it is important to understand the difference between cleaning and disinfecting. Cleaning only removes dirt, dust, and grime from a surface. It does not remove or kill any germs or pathogens on the surface. This is the basic difference to be understood. In regular cleaning, you are only removing dust and dirt. When you do deep cleaning, you need to disinfect surfaces. Disinfecting refers to the killing of all germs like bacteria and viruses.
The main disinfectant methods
If you want to disinfect your home, there are two ways in which it can be done. One is by using physical methods and the other by chemical methods.
Chemical disinfection
This method makes use of chemicals to disinfect your home. By spraying or applying chemicals at different places, you can disinfect your home. The chemicals would kill viruses and bacteria, ensuring that your home is germ-free. Chemical disinfection is very effective and easy to carry out. However, you must know that certain chemicals can be toxic. They need to be handled with care. Certain chemicals can cause problems in pets and children. You must be careful while buying chemical disinfectant products.
Physical disinfection
Here physical methods are used to carry out disinfection. While there are many physical disinfection methods for homes, only two are recommended. One is heat disinfection. This includes heating objects to kill germs on their surface or using steam to disinfect. The other method is UV disinfection. Ultraviolet light can kill germs and is a safe option to use.
Disinfecting your home
Now that you know the methods of disinfecting your home, here is how you can do it in a systematic way.
Cleaning using soap and water
One of the simple yet effective ways of disinfecting is by using soap and water. Make a solution using soap and water. Use this solution to mop your home. Not only does it get rid of dirt and grime, but it also helps to kill most germs on the floor. You can also soap water to clean surfaces like tables and kitchen tops. This is also the safest method to use.
Wash all linen
While disinfecting your home, wash all linen in your home. This includes curtains, bedspreads, cushion covers, pillow covers, and all linen. Use a washing machine to wash the linen using soap and water. This is a good way to disinfect all the linen. Carpets and rugs also need to be washed and dried. Do it as per the instructions from the makers of the carpet/rugs to avoid damage.
Use disinfectant chemicals
Disinfectant chemicals can be used for mopping the home. You can add half a cup of the disinfectant chemical to a bucket of water and then use it to mop the house. This should get rid of most of the germs on floors and other areas mopped. Use these chemicals to disinfect your toilet and bathroom. Look for products that are safe to use and do not cause allergies. Preferably wear gloves while handling disinfectant chemicals.
Disinfectant sprays can be used on all areas that cannot be mopped. Do not spray on food products or inside the refrigerator! You can use the spray on most surfaces, especially tabletops and kitchen tops. After spraying, allow it to stay for at least 10 minutes before wiping dry with a clean cloth.
You can also use disinfecting wipes. They can be used for disinfecting toilet seats, doorknobs, switches, kids’ toys, smartphones, sinks, kitchen counters, etc.
UV light and steam cleaning
UV light sterilization equipment is available for homes. These are handheld products that kill germs by directing UV light at them. Steam cleaning can be very effective but is dangerous as steam can burn. Do not attempt to do this at home yourself. If you want to use steam cleaning, then take the help of a professional.
