HOUSE CLEANING CHECKLIST BEFORE BRINGING HOME YOUR NEW BORN BABY

Do you have a new baby coming home? If so, you will be feeling top of the world. You will want to give a grand welcome to the baby. One of the important things that need to be done before the baby comes home is doing a complete cleaning of the home. You wouldn’t want dust, grime, insects, or anything that causes a problem for your little one. A complete cleaning is essential. To ensure that you don’t miss out on anything, you need to prepare a checklist. This will help you ensure the home is perfect and ready for your precious angel to enter.

The Complete House Cleaning Checklist

Here is the complete house cleaning checklist that you need to use to prep your home for your newborn baby.

Declutter

The first thing to do is get rid of clutter in the home. Clutter refers to all those things that are not in their place or not needed. Do a thorough check of the home to pull out all such things. Find a place to store these items, else get rid of them. You wouldn’t want your little one to grab hold of such items, so get rid of them before the baby is home.

Get safe cleaning products

You need cleaning products to clean your home. There is no compromise when your little one is involved. So, you need to do a deep cleaning. You will need many chemicals to complete the cleaning. Some of these chemicals may be toxic. This may be a problem for your baby. So, use chemicals that are safe and non-toxic. Also, make sure you have all the cleaning supplies on hand.

Start dusting

The first major cleaning task is dusting. You need to ensure every nook and corner of your home is free from dust, dirt, and grime. Dust contains mites that can cause allergies. This is why you need deep cleaning to remove dust everywhere, including the attic and backyard. Pay particular attention to the room where your baby would stay. Ideally, you need to vacuum clean so you can remove the dust completely.

Clean the floors, walls, and ceilings. Clean the carpets as they contain the maximum dust. Ensure curtains, cushions, bedspreads, and sofa spreads are all cleaned. While dusting, ensure you clean all these:

·      Tops of wardrobe/cupboard should not be missed.

·      Fans and lights.

·      Paintings, picture frames, and wall decorations.

·      Doormats and rugs.

·      Corners of ceilings.

While dusting, use a microfiber cloth to get the best results. While vacuuming, ensure you start with a new bag since deep cleaning would result in a lot of dust. Get rid of the bag and fit a fresh bag once you are done. A vacuum cleaner will help you reach corners and places that are otherwise difficult to clean.

Mopping

Once dusting is done, the next step is mopping. Make sure you mop the floor using a disinfectant solution. This will ensure the floor is sanitized for your little one. Keep rinsing the mop as you use it so the grime doesn’t get back on the floor.

Kitchen cleaning

The kitchen would require thorough cleaning. You need to clean cabinets, tops of cabinets, shelves, etc. Have a separate shelf or place to keep things for your baby. This includes the feeding bottle, nipple, brush to wash the bottle, etc. Make sure this place is spotlessly clean. A thorough vacuum cleaning of the kitchen is essential. Mop the floor and wipe the walls of the kitchen too. Clean all utensils and equipment like dishwashers and ovens.

Bathroom cleaning

The bathroom needs to be spotlessly clean. You need to mop using a disinfectant solution. Clean the toilets thoroughly as they are the place that can harbor maximum germs. Organize things in your bathroom properly so there is no clutter. If any plumbing changes are planned, do it before the baby comes home. Here are the things to clean in the bathroom:

·      Shower curtain.

·      Toothbrush holder and soap holder.

·      Bathtub/shower.

·      Vanity and mirror.

Clean carpets, curtains, etc.

Carpets, curtains, rugs, mats, cushion covers, and all such linen needs to be cleaned. A thorough wash is needed before the baby is home. You can consider getting the carpet cleaned by professionals.

Wash windows

Don’t forget the windows. They need to be dusted, especially at the corners. You also need to wash the windows, from the inside and outside.

Check the air conditioning

Your air conditioning can help keep the home dust-free. For this, check the air conditioner to see if it is working fine. The filter may need to be changed. Get the air conditioners services once.

Clean outside

Dirt and grime can come in from outside. So, clean the outer area thoroughly. Ensure a fresh mat is kept at the door so the chances of the floor becoming dirty are less.
